How do I make my computer read text out loud?

Type or paste your text, pick a voice, and press Speak. You can adjust the speed and pitch, and pause, resume or stop at any time. It uses the speech engine built into your browser and operating system, and it does not need an account or any software.

Why are the available voices different on my device?

The voice list comes from your operating system and browser, so Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux each offer different voices and languages. Some voices may need to be downloaded in your system settings. The list can also take a moment to load when the page opens.

Can I download the speech as an MP3 or audio file?

No. The tool plays the speech live through your speakers and does not produce an audio file. To save it, you would need to record your device audio with another program, or use a service that specifically exports audio.

How do I make the voice faster or slower?

Use the Speed slider, which runs from 0.5 times to 2 times normal speed, with 1 as the default. Pitch has its own slider from 0.5 to 2. The changes apply the next time you press Speak, and not all voices respond equally to them.

Is my text sent to a server when it is read aloud?

The page itself does not upload your text. Speech is produced by your browser and system voices. However, some voices, especially network or cloud voices offered by your browser or device vendor, may process text through that vendor service, so pick a local voice for sensitive text.

Why is there no sound, or it does not work in my browser?

Check that your volume is up and the device is not muted, and try a different voice. Speech synthesis is supported in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, but some browsers have no voices installed. If your browser lacks the feature, the page will show a notice saying so.

Is my data shared when using the Text to Speech?
