What is the formula for speed, distance and time?

Speed = distance / time, distance = speed x time, and time = distance / speed. At 60 km/h, 450 km takes 450 / 60 = 7.5 hours, or 7 h 30 m. Use the tabs to solve for time, speed or distance, in kilometres or miles.

How do I calculate travel time for a journey?

Divide the distance by your average speed. The tool shows the answer in hours and minutes, and if you enter a departure time it also gives an estimated arrival. Leaving at 08:00 for a 7 h 30 m trip gives 15:30.

How do I calculate average speed?

Divide total distance by total time taken, including hours and minutes. Covering 150 km in 2 hours 30 minutes is 150 / 2.5 = 60 km/h. Use the Find speed tab and enter distance, hours and minutes.

Does the estimated arrival time include stops and traffic?

No. It assumes you travel at a constant speed with no breaks, so the result is a best case. Add time for rest stops, fuel, traffic and border or security checks. If the trip crosses midnight, the arrival is marked with the number of days later.

Can I use miles instead of kilometres?

Yes. Switch the unit to Miles and enter distance in miles and speed in miles per hour. The formulas are the same, and results are labelled with the unit you chose. The tool does not convert between km and miles, so use the same unit for every input.

How do I convert minutes into decimal hours for speed calculations?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add the hours. For example, 2 hours 30 minutes is 2.5 hours, and 45 minutes is 0.75 hours. The tool takes hours and minutes separately and does this conversion for you.
