Frequently asked questions

How do I read a math equation out loud in words?

Type the expression, for example 2 + 3 = 5. It is converted to 'two plus three equals five'. Numbers are spelled out and operators are replaced with words. You can copy the wording or press the speaker button to hear it read aloud.

Which symbols does it understand?

It handles plus, minus, multiply (* or x), divide (/), equals, the caret for powers and parentheses. So 3^2 reads 'three to the power of two'. Other symbols such as square roots, fractions, integrals or Greek letters are not translated and are dropped.

Why does the letter x read as multiplied by?

The letter x is treated as a multiplication sign, so 2x3 reads 'two multiplied by three'. If x is a variable in your equation, such as x + 1, the spoken text will be wrong. Use another letter for variables, or edit the wording after copying it.

How does it read decimals and large numbers?

Decimals are read digit by digit after the word point, so 3.14 becomes 'three point one four'. Whole numbers are spelled out with hundreds, thousands, millions and billions, so 1250 is 'one thousand two hundred fifty'. Numbers beyond the billions are not supported.

Can it speak the expression aloud?

Yes. The speaker button uses your browser built-in speech synthesis to read the words out loud. Which voice you hear, and how good it sounds, depends on your device and browser. If you hear nothing, check your volume and that your device has a speech voice installed.

Who is this useful for?

It helps with writing accessible math descriptions, preparing captions or scripts, checking how an equation is phrased, and learning how to say expressions in English. It handles simple arithmetic-style expressions, not full mathematical notation.

What operators are supported?

Basic operators like addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*), division (/), exponents (^), brackets, and equal signs (=).

Does it translate to Chinese?

Currently, the mathematical operator descriptions are generated in English.

Is my data shared when using the Read Math Expressions?

No. Toolskyt operates under a zero-server policy. All calculations, data formatting, and file exports are executed locally on your machine.

Do I need to sign up or pay to use the Read Math Expressions?

No, this tool is 100% free. There are no limits, sign-ups, subscriptions, or hidden charges required.
