Frequently asked questions

What Markdown syntax does this editor support?

It renders GitHub-flavoured Markdown, including headings, bold and italic, lists, task lists, tables, fenced code blocks, blockquotes, links, images and strikethrough. Headings get automatic anchor IDs. The preview is sanitised, so scripts and unsafe HTML are stripped out.

How do I open and save a Markdown file?

Press Open file, or drag a file onto the editor. It accepts .md, .markdown, .mdown and .txt files. Press Save .md to download your text as a Markdown file. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Is my Markdown saved automatically?

No. The editor does not store your text between visits, so refreshing or closing the tab loses unsaved work. Press Save .md to download a copy regularly. If you paste in a long document, save it before you leave the page.

How do I get the HTML from my Markdown?

Use the Copy HTML button in the preview pane to copy the generated HTML to your clipboard. You can then paste it into a CMS, an email template or a web page. The HTML is sanitised, and links that start with http open in a new tab.

What is the difference between Markdown and HTML?

Markdown is a lightweight way to write formatted text using plain characters, such as a hash for a heading or asterisks for bold. HTML is the markup language browsers use. Markdown is faster to write and read, and it is converted to HTML for display.

What do the Edit, Split and Preview modes do?

Edit shows only the writing area, Preview shows only the rendered result, and Split shows both side by side so you can watch the preview update as you type. Split view is available on wider screens only, so phones use Edit and Preview.

Is my data shared when using the Markdown Editor?

No. Toolskyt operates under a zero-server policy. All calculations, data formatting, and file exports are executed locally on your machine.

Do I need to sign up or pay to use the Markdown Editor?

No, this tool is 100% free. There are no limits, sign-ups, subscriptions, or hidden charges required.
