How do I convert a Gregorian date to a Hijri date?

Is the Hijri date exact?

It is a calculated date, not an observed one. The tool uses an arithmetic Islamic calendar formula, while religious dates such as the start of Ramadan or Eid depend on local moon sighting or official calendars, so the real date can differ by a day or two. Confirm important dates with your local authority.

Which calendars and languages are supported?

Input is the Gregorian calendar, and output includes the Hijri Islamic calendar and the Persian solar calendar. You can view results in English, Chinese, Spanish, French and Arabic. The full Gregorian date, with weekday, is formatted in the language you select.

What is the Persian solar (Shamsi) calendar?

It is the solar calendar used officially in Iran and Afghanistan, whose year starts at the spring equinox with Farvardin. Its year is about 621 or 622 years behind the Gregorian year count. The tool shows the date with SH after it and lists the month names such as Farvardin and Esfand.

What is the difference between Gregorian and Hijri calendars?

The Gregorian calendar is solar with 365 or 366 days a year. The Hijri calendar is lunar with 12 months of 29 or 30 days, about 354 days a year, so its dates drift about 11 days earlier against the Gregorian year and holidays move through the seasons.

Can I convert a Hijri date back to Gregorian?
