Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST on a price?

To add GST: GST amount = price × rate ÷ 100, and total = price + GST. For a ₹10,000 item at 18%, GST is ₹1,800 and the total is ₹11,800. Enter the amount, choose or type a rate, and keep the Add GST (Exclusive) option on.

How do I calculate the original price from a GST-inclusive amount?

Switch off Add GST to treat your amount as GST-inclusive. The base price is inclusive amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST is the inclusive amount minus the base price. For ₹11,800 at 18%, the base is ₹10,000 and GST is ₹1,800. Do not simply subtract 18% of ₹11,800, which would give a wrong answer.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within one state, GST is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the State (SGST), so 18% becomes 9% plus 9%. For a sale between states, the full amount is charged as IGST. The total GST is the same either way. The calculator shows the split and has an Interstate IGST option.

Which GST rate applies to my product or service?

The GST Council sets rates by product and service category, and it revises them from time to time, so check the current rate for your HSN or SAC code on the official GST portal or with your accountant. The calculator gives quick presets of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% and lets you type any custom rate.

How do I calculate GST for multiple items or invoices?

Calculate each item at its own rate and add the results, because different items in one invoice can carry different rates. If everything is at the same rate, you can total the base prices first, then apply the rate once. The calculator handles one amount and rate at a time.

Is GST the same as input tax credit?

No. GST is the tax charged on a sale. Input tax credit (ITC) is a credit that registered businesses can claim for GST paid on purchases used for business, offsetting GST they collect on sales, subject to conditions. This calculator only works out the GST amount on a price and does not compute ITC.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?

CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are applied on intrastate sales and split equally. IGST (Integrated GST) is applied on interstate transactions and goes to the Central Government.

How do I extract GST from a total amount?

To remove GST, the formula is: GST Amount = Original Cost - (Original Cost * (100 / (100 + GST%))).

Is my data shared when using the GST Calculator?

No. Toolskyt operates under a zero-server policy. All calculations, data formatting, and file exports are executed locally on your machine.

Do I need to sign up or pay to use the GST Calculator?

No, this tool is 100% free. There are no limits, sign-ups, subscriptions, or hidden charges required.
