Frequently asked questions

Which units can I convert with this unit converter?

It covers four categories: length (m, km, cm, mm, mi, yd, ft, in), weight (kg, g, mg, lbs, oz, stone), temperature (Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin) and area (m2, km2, ft2, yd2, acre, hectare). Other categories such as volume, speed or currency are not included.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 and add 32. So 100 degrees C is 100 x 9/5 + 32 = 212 degrees F, and 37 degrees C is 98.6 degrees F. Pick Temperature, then Celsius and Fahrenheit, and type the value. Kelvin is Celsius plus 273.15.

How many feet are in a metre, and how many kilometres in a mile?

One metre is about 3.28084 feet, and one mile is about 1.609 kilometres (1609.34 metres). In the tool, choose Length, pick the from and to units, and enter your value. All conversions run instantly in your browser as you type.

How do I convert kg to pounds?

Multiply kilograms by 2.20462 to get pounds. For example, 70 kg is about 154.3 lbs. To go back, divide pounds by 2.20462. Choose Weight, set kg as the from unit and lbs as the to unit, then enter the number.

How accurate are the conversions?

Conversion factors are rounded to about five or six significant digits, for example 1 m = 3.28084 ft. That is precise enough for everyday, cooking, travel and study use, but not for engineering, surveying or scientific work that needs exact defined values.

How do I convert acres and hectares to square metres?

One hectare is exactly 10,000 square metres, and one acre is about 4,046.86 square metres. So one hectare is about 2.471 acres. Choose Area, then select acres or hectares as the from unit and square metres as the to unit.
